This laptop would be all 5 stars if there was the option to use XP on it. Unfortunately, the hardware itself is non-compatible with XP and therefore you are 'stuck' with Vista.

So far I've enjoyed this Satellite computer. It's my third generation. Great Screen, good touch to the keyboard, sound system is nice to listen to the included FM radio while working on large file systems. I do miss my PCMCIA card slot but there are USB alternatives. Haven't used the DVD yet but browsed it and it looks good and easy to use. It's just a good machine.

I do graphics and photography for a living (on a desktop computer at work). Even at home I often have several applications open at once including Photoshop CS4 while hooked to two external hard drives and dowloading 21MP Raw images at the same time. This laptop is faster than my desktop at work! One thing I could do without, though, is the light bar beyond the touch pad and the brightly lit TOSHIBA logo at the lower left of the keyboard. When using the computer in the dark, those are nearly blinding. I've put gaffer's tape over them and that solved the problem. I especially like having two USB ports on each side of the laptop.

My husband bought me this laptop for my birthday and I was so excited. He had one for work and really liked it. His job has sent him to China on a two year work assignment, and the laptop would be used primarily for video calls "SKYPE" to my husband in China. Unfortunatley for me, the love of this laptop didn't last long. When I start to type (in any program) the mouse jumps all over the screen and my text disappears. It sounds like a virus doesn't it. But it's brand new and it should be in good health. The second delima is that my husband only hears staticy noise when we speak. So I've be testing it with my neighbor and Karl was right, the sound is horrible and no one else is experiencing this problem. I regret that this product did not work for me. Expecially since it was a product that I researched and really wanted. Perhaps you will have better luck.
